Founded as a seasonal alternative to ice hockey in 1925, the league grew from an urban recreational competition to an international league composed of 25 teams, 23 in the United States and 2 in Canada. At the end of each season, a four round best-of-seven elimination tournament is held and the winner, the annual league champion, is awared the Muldoon Cup.
